The 2016 ACA (Obamacare) rate increases have been filed.
A company by company breakdown of the health insurance rate increases has been made public, you can see the company listing HERE, Please not that these rate increases have only been submitted and are not yet approved, which means the can be changed, or disapproved. The two companies that are missing from the list are Dean Health and Molina, which could mean several different things, the ACA requires that any premium increase of 10% or more me sent in for review. Molina was the only one that had a rate reduction from 2013 to 2014, so either they think they have it right or it is not showing in the system. Dean had a pretty significant health insurance rate increase last year and it is possible that they will hold back for 2016, but again it is very early. The requested increases vary greatly from 32.89% to a low of 10.15% and UnitedHealth (All Savers Insurance Company) is in the middle of the pack with a 15.4% increase request.
Nothing has shown up on the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance for Wisconsin website as of yet, and they might not show anything until the final process has been completed. They will have the final say on what increases are approved and for what percentage. These increases are not just pulled out of a hat, they now have had two years of claims experience to work with and plenty of hard data to backup their submissions or requests, which means that we likely wont see any drastic changes by the Commissioner. We will keep monitoring the situation and update our blog as more information roles out. Our hope is that the companies that are not showing did not request an increase and will stay level for the upcoming year, but with all the changes happening I am not willing to stake my reputation on it.
The page I posted is only for Wisconsin, if you wish to see the other states simply click Here , chose the state , leave company blank and use a date range of 01/01/2016 for both to and from.
