Health insurance in Wisconsin

The health insurance market in Wisconsin and the country is changing daily.  What it means to you could be very different than what it means to your neighbor.  If you have several pre-existing conditions the health insurance changes may allow you to get the coverage you were turned down for previously.  If you are self employed or lower income the subsidies may help pay for the health insurance you couldn't afford.  However, the biggest wait and see game will be for the middle class, healthy group.  I have a feeling that is the group that will bear the brunt of paying for the others.

Gov. Scott Walker

The Governor, Scott Walker has chosen to let the  Federal Government set up the health insurance exchange for Wisconsin, and has turned down the expanded Medicaid program.  I do understand some of his motives, but I hope that it is not just a political game.

On the brighter side, as I stated in my last blog, Wisconsin has approved 13 insurance companies to sell in the Marketplace (exchange).  Some of them like Dean Health, and Arise (WPS Health Plan) have offered quality insurance in Wisconsin for a very long time.  The most notable companies missing would be UnitedHealthOne, and Assurant , who are two of the biggest players in the Wisconsin health insurance market.  This points to me that the big boys are going to be offering many open market plans outside of the exchange.  They could also just be sitting back waiting to see how things play out.  Both companies have guaranteed the benefits of the plans sold today, till December 2014, giving them and the customer a little breathing room.

No matter what side of the fence you are on, the implementation of Obamacare promises to be a wild ride.

Football Season is almost here and I for one can't wait for the regular season to start.  If you are true Green Bay Packer fan you cringed at the first  preseason game.  It was flat, and for a team that was screaming that they were tough, it was very unemotional.  I was disappointed in the game, I know it is "just preseason" but with all the scuffles and fighting that has been going on in camp, I thought they would be on fire, I didn't see it.  The second game was a little better, but I just haven't seen the big fire that I had hoped for.  The biggest game changer walking on the field has to be Eddie Lacy, that dude is a tank, and has all the tools that we have been without for a very long time.  There have been many changes to the front "O" line and frankly I am scared, but as long a Rodgers can run I think he will survive.

One last thought before I go, we have received lots of calls from people on  HIRSP.  The plan has stated " Recently, Wisconsin passed a new state budget that sunsets the Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan. The language approved in the budget establishes the last day of coverage for HIRSP and HIRSP Federal Plan members as December 31, 2013 unless the federal Health Insurance Marketplace (also known as the “Exchange”) is not offering coverage with an effective date of January 1, 2014. The federal Health Insurance Marketplace is the key feature of national healthcare reform."  If you are on HIRSP this is the best if not the only health insurance option in Wisconsin for you at this time.  As information trickles in we will be passing it along so that all of our customers, obtain the best coverage for their situation.  Stay Tuned.
